Agri Buzz: Gujarat kharif crops acreage dips 4.25% on year, oilseeds area shows good rise

According to the latest data from the Gujarat Agriculture Directorate, the latest sowing data showed that the total acreage under summer crops stood at 67.47 lakh hectares as on 3 August 2026, down 4.25% compared to the same period last year. Area under total cereals stood at 10.64 lakh hectares, slipping 7.20% on year. Pulses area fell by 8% to 2.96 lakh hectares. Oilseeds area rose by 6.75% on year to 25.75 lakh hectares. Area under Groundnut - the major commodity in the oilseeds group rose 3.20% to 20.41 lakh hectares, marking a good recovery in last one month as it had witnessed a drop of nearly 25% on year in first week of July. In other major commodities, acreage under Cotton fell 2.49% to 20.35 lakh hectares.
