31-Jul-2026 | 08:32
United States gross domestic product grew 1.5% annually in the second quarter, below expectations, an advance estimate published on Thursday by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) showed. In the first quarter of 2026, the US economy grew by 2.1% annually.

Increases in consumer spending, investment, and exports contributed to the increase, but the effect was tempered by a decrease in government spending. There was also an increase in imports.

The price index for gross domestic purchases went up 5.7% in the reported quarter, accelerating from 3.6% observed in the previous three-month period. The personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index was 5.1% higher, as opposed to an increase of 4.6% in the previous quarter. Excluding food and energy, the PCE price index advanced 3.4%, decelerating from 4.4% in Q1.
