Market Speak: India jewellery demand drops 15% amid high gold prices: WGC

India's gold demand softened to 131 tonnes in the June quarter, down 6% from a year ago, as high and volatile prices weighed on jewellery consumption, according to the World Gold Council's report released today. Jewellery demand dropped 15% to 75 tonnes, while bar and coin demand rose 9% to 50 tonnes. Even with lower volumes, the total value of gold demand jumped 50% year-on-year to ₹1.98 lakh crore.
