Economic Buzz: US initial jobless claims down by 8,000 to 208,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States fell by 8,000 to 208,000 in the week ending July 11, a report by the Department of Labor showed on Thursday. The 4-week moving average declined by 4,750 from the previous week's revised average to stand at 214,250.

Meanwhile, the insured unemployment rate ran at 1.2% in the week ending July 4, remaining unchanged in comparison to the previous week, as the insured unemployment number amounted to 1,805,000, down by 16,000 from the previous week's revised figures. The 4-week moving average was 1,811,000, increasing by 1,250 compared to the week prior.
