Economic Buzz: Japan industrial production up 0.1% in May

Japan's industrial production index was at 102.6 in May, marking a 0.1% increase from April, according to a final report from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), published on Tuesday.

Compared to the same month in 2025, the figure declined by 2.1%. The shipments index increased by 0.5% month-on-month to land at 101.5, and was down 2.0% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the inventories index fell 1.1% from the previous month, landing at 94.9 and falling 5.0% compared to last year. The inventory ratio grew 0.7% on a monthly basis to reach 102.3, representing a 0.8% annual decrease.
