Economic Buzz: German trade surplus rises to ?19.1B in May

The German trade surplus amounted to ?19.1 billion in May, up from April's ?14.7 billion and ?18.8 billion registered in May 2025, the country?s Federal Statistical Office Destatis revealed in a report on Thursday.

The country's calendar and seasonally adjusted exports stood at ?137.9 billion, increasing 0.9% on a monthly level and 6.1% year over year. Imports stood at ?118.8 billion, down 2.5% month on month but up 6.9% on an annual level.

Exports to the European Union fell by 1.1% in May compared to April, coming in at ?78.3 billion, while imports declined 2.5% to ?59.5 billion. Exports to the non-EU countries jumped 3.6% month on month to ?59.6 billion, while imports decreased 2.6% to ?59.4 billion.
