Economic Buzz: Eurozone retail sales up 0.2% in May

Retail trade in the Eurozone experienced a monthly rise of 0.2% in May, the European Commission's statistical office Eurostat revealed in its report published on Monday. In the European Union, it went up by 0.5%. On an annual basis, the figure increased by 1.6% in the euro area and 1.9% in the EU.
Month-on-month, the Eurozone saw growth of 0.6% in retail sales of food, drinks, and tobacco, and 0.1% in non-food products. The sales of automotive fuel in specialized stores declined by 0.5%. In the EU, retail trade in food, drinks, and tobacco went up by 0.6%, and in non-food products by 0.5%. The figure for automotive fuel in specialized stores dropped by 0.4%.
