Economic Buzz: German retail sales up by 1.8% in May

Retail trade turnover in Germany saw a real-term rise of 1.8% in May compared to the same month of the previous year, the country's statistical office Destatis said in its report published on Tuesday. In nominal terms, the figure went up by 3.2%.
Month-on-month, Germany's retail sales increased by 1.1% in real terms and 1% in nominal terms.
Compared to April, retail sales in the food sector went up by 1.1% in real terms and 1% in nominal terms. Year-on-year, they grew by 0.6% in real terms and 1.5% in nominal terms. Retail sales in the non-food retail sector rose by 2.7% on an annual basis and 1% on a monthly one in real terms. In nominal terms, they increased by 1.2% year-on-year and 4.3% month-on-month.
