Economic Buzz: US retail sales up by 0.9% in May

Retail and food services sales in the United States advanced by 0.9% in May compared to last month's figures, landing at $763.7 billion, the US Census Bureau revealed in its report published on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the May figure reported a 6.9% rise compared to the corresponding month in 2025.

Total sales for the period from March to May were up by 5.3% year-over-year. Nonstore retailers rose by 12.2% compared to 2025, while the food service and drinking places increased by 2.7% on an annual basis.
