Economic Buzz: German inflation down to 2.6% in May

The annual inflation rate in Germany reached 2.6% in May, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) confirmed in its final report released on Friday. The figure came in lower compared to 2.9% observed in April and matched the preliminary report.

On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) declined by 0.2% in the reported month, while the harmonized index of consumer prices decreased by 0.1%. On an annual basis, the harmonized CPI rose by 2.7%. All of the figures came in line with the preliminary data. Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes food and energy, climbed by 2.5% year-on-year and by 0.3% month-on-month.
