Economic Buzz: US job market stays strong in May
08-Jun-2026 | 06:48
Employers in the United States added 172,000 jobs in May, while the unemployment rate held steady at 4.3%. This shows the labor market is still resilient even with rising inflation and global uncertainty.
The biggest gains came from leisure and hospitality, which added 70,000 jobs, including 48,000 in restaurants and bars. Local government and healthcare also saw increases.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics report adds to recent signs of strong hiring, despite inflation pressures and challenges from ongoing Middle East conflict.
