Economic Buzz: Eurozone retail sales see modest monthly decline in May

Retail trade in the Eurozone witnessed a monthly decline of 0.4% in May, the European Commission's statistical office Eurostat stated in its a latest update today. In the European Union, it dipped by 0.5%. Year-on-year, the figure increased by 0.8% in the euro area and 1.1% in the EU. The Eurozone experienced a monthly rise of 0.9% in retail sales of food, drinks, and tobacco, contrasted with a drop of 0.9% in non-food products and 2.7% in automotive fuel in specialized stores, data showed. The sharpest monthly declines were registered in Denmark at 4.5. Lithuania saw largest spike at 1.9%.
