Economic Buzz: Australia inflation cools to 4.2% in April

27-May-2026 | 09:47
Australia?s annual inflation rate eased to 4.2% in April 2026 from 4.6% in March, though it remained above the Reserve Bank of Australia?s 2?3% target range. The slowdown was largely driven by softer goods inflation, particularly transport costs, after the government reduced fuel excise duties from April 1. Food, housing, and services inflation also moderated slightly, while monthly consumer prices rose 0.4%, sharply lower than March?s 1.1% increase, signaling easing price pressures across the economy.
