Agri Buzz: Summer crop sowing gains 3.80% on year, sharp jump in Pulses and Cereals area

The total area sown to summer-season crops has edged up 3.83% to 83.08 lakh hectares till 18 May this year, with maximum coverage under paddy, according to the agriculture ministry data. Rice has been sown in 31.05 lakh hectares, down 4.20% on year. Pulses acreage increased rose 5% to 25 lakh hectares while oilseeds acreage spiked 15.20% to 11.04 lakh tonne. Area sown to coarse cereals jumped 15% on year to 16.01 lakh hectares.
