Economic Buzz: US retail sales up by 0.5% in April

Retail and food services sales in the United States saw a monthly rise of 0.5%, reaching $757.1 billion, the US Census Bureau said in its report published on Thursday. Year-on-year, the figure went up by 4.9%.

Total sales for the February 2026 through April 2026 period increased by 4.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. Nonstore retailers grew by 11.% compared to April 2025. Meanwhile, food services and drinking places rose by 2.7%.
