Economic Buzz: Australia's April trade deficit at AUD 1.8 billion

07-May-2026 | 10:28
Australia posted its first trade deficit in more than eight years in April, with the figure reaching 1.84 billion Australian dollars (~$1.33 billion), according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday.

The result disappointed market expectations and followed last month's 5.02 billion surplus.

Exports fell by 2.7%, led by declines in other rural goods, while imports went up by 14.1% on stronger inflows of ADP equipment.
