Economic Buzz: Eurozone's economy expands by 0.1% in Q1

The Eurozone's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 0.1% in the first quarter of 2026, the European Commission's statistical office Eurostat announced on Thursday in its first estimate. In the European Union, the economy also expanded by 0.1%.
Year-on-year, seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 0.8% in the euro area and by 1.0% in the EU. In the previous quarter, the figures stood at 1.3% and 1.4%, respectively. Among member states for which data were available, Finland recorded the sharpest quarterly rise at 0.9%, followed by Hungary at 0.8%, while Estonia and Spain both grew by 0.6%.
Declines were registered in Ireland, where GDP fell by 2.0%, Lithuania, down 0.4%, and Sweden, which contracted by 0.2%.
