Commodities Buzz: US Crude oil imports up 0.70% on year in last four weeks, says EIA

The US Energy Information Administration or EIA has stated that US crude oil refinery inputs averaged 16.1 million barrels per day during the week ending April 24, 2026, which was 85 thousand barrels per day more than the previous week’s average. Refineries operated at 89.6% of their operable capacity last week. Gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 9.8 million barrels per day. Distillate fuel production decreased, averaging 4.9 million barrels per day.

US crude oil imports averaged 5.8 million barrels per day last week, decreased by 329 thousand barrels per day from the previous week. Over the past four weeks, crude oil imports averaged about 5.9 million barrels per day, 0.7% more than the same four-week period last year. Total motor gasoline imports (including both finished gasoline and gasoline blending components) last week averaged 344 thousand barrels per day, and distillate fuel imports averaged 126 thousand barrels per day.

US commercial crude oil inventories (excluding those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve) decreased by 6.2 million barrels from the previous week. At 459.5 million barrels, US crude oil inventories are about 1% above the five-year average for this time of year. Total motor gasoline inventories decreased by 6.1 million barrels from last week and are 2% below the five-year average for this time of year. Both finished gasoline and blending component inventories decreased last week. Distillate fuel inventories decreased by 4.5 million barrels last week and are about 11% below the five-year average for this time of year.
