Economic Buzz: Japan retail sales up by 1.3% in March

Japan's retail sales landed above investors' expectations in March, rising by a 1.3% on a monthly basis to land at ?14.3 trillion (~$89.3 billion), according to a preliminary report released by the country's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

On an annual basis, the sales value went up by 1.7%, as the total value of commercial sales reached ?58.8 trillion, with 3.2% more goods sold compared to February.

Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted value of sales in the wholesale industry reached ?44.5 trillion, marking a month-on-month increase of 3.7%.
