Economic Buzz: Global economic growth forecast remains at 3.1% for 2026, says OPEC
14-Apr-2026 | 12:19
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) stated in its latest monthly update for April that global economic activity indicators and surveys all point to a solid start for this year, extending last year?s robust global economic growth trend into 2026. This relative resilience is still ongoing, despite a number of 1Q26 challenges that may have an impact on global growth momentum, in particular, geopolitical developments in the Middle East. Overall, the US, India, and China are projected to remain key drivers of global economic expansion in 2026, with current developments likely to have a limited impact on their economies. The Eurozone and Japan are forecast to expand at a slightly less dynamic growth momentum than that of the US, albeit still holding up relatively well. At the same time, Brazil and Russia are expected to sustain steady growth trends in 2026. With this, the global economic growth forecast remains at 3.1% for 2026, accelerating slightly to 3.2% in 2027. Both forecasts are unchanged from last month?s assessment.
