Economic Buzz: US wholesale inventories down by 0.5% in January

Wholesale inventories in the United States decreased by 0.5% in January compared to the previous month, reaching $909.3 billion, the Census Bureau said in its report issued on Thursday.

Sales of merchant wholesalers, adjusted for seasonal variations and trading-day differences but not for price changes, were $727.5 billion, up by 0.5% month-on-moth and 7.5% year-on-year.

The January ratio between inventories and sales for merchant wholesalers was 1.25. A year ago, the figure was at 1.33.
