Commodities Buzz: WTI Crude oil net speculative longs surge to eight month high

Energy speculators sharply increased their net long positions in the crude oil futures market unchanged, according to the latest Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The non-commercial futures contracts of Crude oil futures, traded by large speculators, hedge funds and retailers, totaled a net long position of 228015 contracts in the data reported through week ended March 10, 2026. This marked a weekly spike of 55303 contracts and pushed net longs near eight-month high.
