05-Mar-2026 | 10:09
Australian household spending rose 0.3% m/m in January 2026, snapping a revised 0.5% fall in December and pointing to a modest start-year recovery. Gains were driven by services, with miscellaneous goods and services up 2.5% and health higher by 1.7%, while transport, clothing and food posted marginal increases. On a yearly basis, spending growth slowed to 4.6%, the weakest pace since late May, suggesting consumer momentum is easing despite the monthly rebound.
