Economic Buzz: Eurozone unemployment rate at 6.1% in January

The unemployment rate in the Eurozone reached 6.1% in January, slightly down from December's revised level of 6.2%, the European Commission's statistical office Eurostat said in its report published on Wednesday. In the European Union, the figure stood at 5.8%, also down from December's 5.9%.

In the EU, 12.928 million people were unemployed, 10.770 million of them in the euro area. Month-on-month, those numbers declined by 185,000 and 184,000, respectively. Year-on-year, they decreased by 274,000 in the EU and 273,000 in the Eurozone.

The youth unemployment rate reached 14.8% in the euro area and 15.1% in the EU.
