Nifty trade above 25,750 mark; metal shares shine
The Nifty traded above the 25,750 mark, while metal shares extended gains for the third consecutive trading session.
At 11:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 82.04 points or 0.10% to 83,709.73. The Nifty 50 index rose 39.10 points or 0.15% to 25,770.15.
The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.24% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index jumped 0.36%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 1,953 shares rose and 1,811 shares fell. A total of 215 shares were unchanged.
IPO Update:
The initial public offer (IPO) of Amagi Media Labs received bids for 23,08,833 shares as against 2,72,66,589 shares on offer, according to stock exchange data at 11:25 IST on Wednesday (14 January 2026). The issue was subscribed 0.08 times.
The issue opened for bidding on Tuesday (13 January 2026) and it will close on Friday (16 January 2026). The price band of the IPO is fixed between Rs 343 and 361 per share. An investor can bid for a minimum of 41 equity shares and in multiples thereof.
Buzzing Index:
The Nifty Metal index surged 3.02% to 11,697.60. The index rallied 5.43% in the three consecutive trading sessions.
Vedanta (up 5.93%), Hindustan Zinc (up 5.41%), Hindustan Copper (up 3.74%), Tata Steel (up 3.65%), National Aluminium Company (up 3.39%), Steel Authority of India (up 2.98%), Jindal Steel (up 2.76%), Hindalco Industries (up 2.15%), NMDC (up 2.05%) and APL Apollo Tubes (up 1.54%) advanced.
On the other hand, Lloyds Metals & Energy (down 0.30%) and Welspun Corp (down 0.01%), turned lower.
Stocks in Spotlight:
NLC India advanced 3.02% after the company signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat for development of large-scale renewable energy (RE) projects.
Garment Mantra Lifestyle rallied 4.35% after the company said it has achieved export sales of Rs 100 crore in the current financial year, marking the highest-ever export performance since its inception.
Oswal Pumps rose 1.43% after the company received an LoA worth Rs 119.92 crore from Karnataka Renewable Energy Development for the supply and installation of 3,263 off-grid DC solar pumping systems across Karnataka.
Global Markets:
Asian markets traded mixed even as Japanese indexes hit record highs on Wednesday.
The rally in Japanese stocks was fuelled by expectations that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi could call for a snap election, likely in February. If called, it will be Takaichi?s first time facing Japan?s voters in an election.
Overnight in the U.S., all three major indexes fell as investors grappled with volatility from a flurry of proposals from U.S. President Donald Trump floated in the past few days.
The S&P 500 dipped 0.19% as investors sold JPMorgan despite better-than-expected numbers, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 0.8%. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.1%.
