Industrial production in the UK fell sharply by 2% month-on-month in September 2025, the steepest decline since January 2021, reversing a 0.3% gain in August. The downturn was driven by a 1.7% fall in manufacturing output, led by a major 28.6% drop in motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers production. Output also declined in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply by 3.4%, as well as in water and waste management by 0.7%. Mining and quarrying continued to weaken, down 3.4%. On a yearly basis, industrial activity contracted 2.5%, deepening from a 0.5% fall in August.
