Hot Commodities: Sugar tanks to five year low, down around 13% in Oct-25

28-Oct-2025 | 11:55
Global Sugar futures are slumping amid hopes of elevated supplies. The Raw Sugar futures broke well under 15 cents per pound to test nearly five-year low yesterday. The counter lost more than 3% to 14.50 cents per pound. The latest slide came on signs of higher sugar output in Brazil. Unica has reported that Brazil's Centre-South sugar output in the second half of September rose by around 11% y/y to 3.137 million tonnes or MT. The cumulative 2025-26 Centre-South sugar output through September rose 0.8% y/y to 33.524 MT. Market is also worried about higher sugar exports from India following abundant monsoon rains that will likely offer a bumper sugar crop from the country. Sugar has lost around 13% this month.
