Economic Buzz: China retail sales rise 3%, industrial production up 6.5% in September

Retail sales in China increased 3% year-on-year in September, the latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics published on Monday showed.

The figure was higher than expected and dropped from last month's increase of 3.4%.

Consumer goods sales in urban areas increased by 4.4% year-over-year, whereas the increase in rural areas amounted to 4.6%.

China's industrial production rose by 6.5% year on year in September, while growing 0.64% on a monthly basis, according to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released on Monday.

In the first three quarters, the total value added of industrial enterprises above the designated size grew by 6.2% year on year. Equipment manufacturing rose by 9.7%, and high-tech manufacturing increased by 9.6%.
