At 11:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, jumped 482.14 points or 0.60% to 80,727.66. The Nifty 50 index rose 130.60 points or 0.53% to 24,741.70.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index added 0.21% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index rose 0.33%.
The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,311 shares rose and 1,478 shares fell. A total of 168 shares were unchanged.
Economy:
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday kept the policy repo rate unchanged at 5.5% for the second straight time, citing concerns over tariff uncertainties. Announcing the fourth bi-monthly policy of the fiscal, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) unanimously voted to maintain the rate with a neutral stance. He noted that while GST rate rationalisation may dampen consumption and growth, tariff-related pressures could further slow economic expansion in the second half of the year.

Buzzing Index:
The Nifty Private Bank index gained 1.41% to 26,834.80. The index rose 1.48% in the two consecutive trading sessions.
Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 2.32%), ICICI Bank (up 1.73%), Axis Bank (up 1.04%) and HDFC Bank (up 0.97%) gained.
On the other hand, RBL Bank (down 3.3%), IDFC First Bank (down 1.19%) and Bandhan Bank (down 0.8%) edged lower.
Stocks in Spotlight:
Hi-Tech Pipes advanced 2.25% after the company registered a sales volume of 1,25,218 MT in Q2 FY26, which is higher by 1.79% as compared to 1,23,027 MT recorded in Q2 FY25.
Bajaj Auto rose 0.02%. The company has reported 9% increase in total auto sales for September 2025, selling 5.10 lakh units as against 4.69 lakh units sold in September 2024.
Global Markets:
Asia market traded mixed on Wednesday, following gains on Wall Street as investors appeared unperturbed by a looming U.S. government shutdown.
Markets on mainland China and Hong Kong were closed for a holiday.
Over in Japan, the central bank released the results for its third-quarter Tankan survey.
The index for business optimism among large Japanese manufacturers increased to +14 for the third quarter from +13 in the previous quarter but was lower than the +15 expected by economists polled by Reuters. The non-manufacturing index held steady at +34.
Overnight in the U.S., stocks ended higher on Tuesday as investors looked past concerns over a potential government shutdown and marked an unusually strong September.
The S&P 500 rose 0.41% to close at 6,688.46, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.31% to finish at 22,660.01. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 81.82 points, or 0.18%, to settle at 46,397.89, setting a new closing high.
