Reserve Bank of India (RBI) stated in its latest monthly bulletin that Kharif sowing crossed normal acreage for the full season supported by above normal monsoon rainfall. The increase in sown area was mainly in rice, maize, urad and sugarcane while the area under oilseeds and cotton declined. The tur acreage has been shifting to maize due to decline in tur prices and the rising demand for maize in ethanol production.
