Commodities Buzz: Sharp spike in crude oil net speculative long positions

Energy speculators sharply increased their net long positions in the crude oil futures market after recent spree of declines, according to the latest Commitment of Traders (COT) data released by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The non-commercial futures contracts of Crude oil futures, traded by large speculators, hedge funds and retailers, totaled a net long position of 81844 contracts in the data reported through week ended September 16, 2025. This was a weekly jumped of 16865 net contracts and pushed up net longs from lowest in 15-years.
