Economic Buzz: US wholesale inventories up 2.3% on year in April

The U.S. Census Bureau announced the new wholesale trade statistics for April 2025 which showed sales of merchant wholesalers were $700.2 billion, up 0.1 percent from the revised March level. Total sales were up 6.0 percent from the revised April 2024 level.

The February 2025 to March 2025 percent change was revised from the preliminary estimate of up 0.6 percent to up 0.8 percent.

Total inventories of merchant wholesalers were $908.7 billion at the end of April, up 0.2 percent from the revised March level. Total inventories were up 2.3 percent from the revised April 2024 level.

The March 2025 to April 2025 percent change was revised from the advance estimate of virtually unchanged to up 0.2 percent.

The April inventories/sales ratio for merchant wholesalers was 1.30. The April 2024 ratio was 1.34.
