_x000D_ Incorporated in 1969, Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation (SPIC) Limited is one of the leading fertiliser manufacturing companies that manufactures and sells Urea, a nitrogenous chemical fertiliser._x000D_ _x000D_ SPIC Limited was founded by Dr M A Chidambaram and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO), a state-owned industrial development institution. In 1979, the company set up a Gas Hydrogen Recovery Unit to increase the production of Ammonia. Since then, the company has been constantly expanding. They set up a Urea plant in the UAE in 1997. In the same year, the company promoted a new venture Spic Electric Power Corporation Limited._x000D_ _x000D_ In 2003, the company’s ammonia unit in Tuticorin was closed due to leakage in the pipeline.
