About Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd

Journey of Kotak Mahindra Bank

Uday Kotak established Kotak Capital Management Finance, an investment and financial services company, in 1985. To get the company off the ground, he secured a loan of ₹30 lakh from his family and friends. The following year, in 1986, Anand Mahindra and his father, Harish Mahindra, made an investment of ₹1 lakh in the company. This significant infusion of funds prompted a renaming of the company to Kotak Mahindra Finance. Kotak Mahindra Bank is an Indian private sector bank headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It originated as in February 2003, when Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd. (KMFL), the Group’s flagship company, received a banking license from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It became the first non-banking finance company in India to convert into a bank. The bank was initially engaged in bill discounting, along with lease and hire purchase activities. It went public in 2005. In March 2017, Kotak Mahindra Bank launched an online savings account called Kotak 811, named after November 8, 2016, the day when the Indian government demonetised ₹500 and ₹1,000 currency notes. Kotak Mahindra Bank has gained recognition for its commitment to excellence and innovation, earning prestigious awards such as the title of India's best private bank in 2021 at the FinanceAsia Country Awards and Asiamoney Private Banking Awards. As of December 2022, Kotak Mahindra Bank boasted an extensive network with 1752 branches and 2814 ATMs throughout India.
