About Bayer CropScience Ltd

Bayer CropScience Limited is the flagship company of Bayer Group. It is involved in the Agri Care business, which includes manufacturing, selling, and distributing of insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, other agrochemical products, and corn seeds. In 1896, the group established the first wholly owned subsidiary in Asia, “Farbenfabriken Bayer and Co. Ltd.” in Mumbai. In 1904, the group delegated its own commercial and technical personnel to expand the business in India. The company established the first facility to formulate Bayer pesticides in Bombay at a small plant gained complete control of by Bayer’s partner in 1958. The company was listed on exchanges in India in 1965. It continued its business expansion and commenced operations of a major production unit in Thane in 1969. In 1990, it established a production unit at Vapi (earlier called Mitsu by the Bilakhia Group) for manufacturing intermediates and agrochemicals, today commonly referred to as Bayer Vapi. The company strengthened its operations and developed an agrochemical manufacturing site at Silvassa, in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu in Western India in 1996. In 2001, it gained complete control of Aventis CropScience and continued its inorganic growth. In 2011, a 50:50 joint venture was established between Bayer HealthCare and Zydus Cadilla in India. The company started a new Global Formulation Technology Laboratory in 2015 at its manufacturing site in Vapi, Gujarat. During the same year, Bayer House, Vapi, the administration building, received LEED certification. During the subsequent year (2016), Bayer established a corn breeding centre in Udaipur, Rajasthan. In 2018, Bayer closed the Monsanto acquisition and concluded the process to sell Covestro. In 2021, the company launched its Consumer Health division in India and finished 125 years in India.
