Journey of BASF India Limited

Incorporated in 1943, BASF India Limited is involved in the manufacturing and trading of chemicals and chemical products.  Originally, the company came into existence as as R.A. Cole Limited and started manufacturing expandable and expanded polystyrene and synthetic tanning agents. In 1963, the company’s name was changed to Indoplast Ltd, which was changed to BASF India Ltd in 1967 after the company had collaborated with Badische Anilin & Soda-Fabric AG (BASF), West Germany.  In 1967, the company signed an agreement with the National Research Development Corporation of India (NRDC) and agreed to offer the know-how developed by the Central Leather Research Institute for certain synthetic tanning agents. The next year, the company went public. In 1980, the company set up an agrochemical plant on the Thane-Belapur road. In 1998, BASF India Limited established 2 new plants in Mangalore to manufacture leather chemicals, auxiliaries, acrylic polymers, etc.  By 1999, the company had five divisions - leather chemicals, chemicals, plastics, crop protection chemicals and colour dispersions. In 2013, BASF India Limited launched a new brand to enter into the construction sector.  As of March 2023, the company has 4 manufacturing facilities in India, and they cater to 28 states in India and 37 countries worldwide.

  • Nutrition and Care:In this segment, the company offers care chemicals and nutrition and health additives, such as vitamins, enzymes, omega-3 fatty acids, polymers, cosmetic active ingredients, UV filters and many more for the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, cleaners and detergents industries.
  • Agricultural Solutions:In this segment, the company offers seeds and seed treatment products, such as herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, etc.
