Barometers trade with minor gains; financial services shares in demand

The key equity indices traded with small gains in the mid- afternoon trade. The Nifty traded above the 25,100 level. Financial Services shares advanced after declining for previous two trading session.

At 14:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, advanced 286.67 points or 0.28% to 82,140.34. The Nifty 50 index added 76.30 points or 0.20% to 25,124.85.

In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index advanced 0.09% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index jumped 0.20%.

The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,157 shares rose and 1,827 shares fell. A total of 184 shares were unchanged.

Buzzing Index:

The Nifty Financial Services index rose 0.44% to 26,604.85. The index shed 0.15% in the previous two trading sessions.

Bajaj Finance (up 1.37%), Bajaj Finserv (up 1.25%), SBI Life Insurance Company (up 1.24%), HDFC Asset Management Company (up 1.05%) and SBI Cards & Payment Services (up 0.86%), ICICI Bank (up 0.86%), ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company (up 0.7%), Shriram Finance (up 0.38%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 0.23%) and HDFC Bank (up 0.22%) added.

On the other hand, Jio Financial Services (down 1.32%), Muthoot Finance (down 0.48%) and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company (down 0.47%) edged lower.

Numbers to Track:

The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper rose 0.40% to 6.523 from the previous close of 6.497.

In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged lower against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 87.1125 compared with its close of 87.0700 during the previous trading session.

MCX Gold futures for 3 October 2025 settlement shed 0.16% to Rs 99,130.

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was up 0.01% to 98.26.

The United States 10-year bond yield rose 0.21% to 4.307.

In the commodities market, Brent crude for October 2025 settlement rose 47 cents or 0.70% to $67.31 a barrel.

Stocks in Spotlight:

IndusInd Bank fell 1.11%. The company has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of MSME.

Transrail Lighting rose 0.22%. The company has secured a significant domestic transmission line EPC order and an international product supply order totalling to Rs 837 crore.
