Consumer inflation expectations in Australia slid to 3.9% in August from 4.7% in July, the lowest since March and marking a second month of decline. The drop adds to signs of cooling price pressures after the RBA cut its cash rate to 3.6% earlier this month, the lowest since April 2023. Inflation has steadied at 2.4% for three straight quarters, while core inflation eased to 2.9%, its weakest since late 2021 but still slightly above the target midpoint.
