Gold nears $3400 as safe-haven demand returns

18-Aug-2025 | 14:19
Gold prices rebounded sharply towards $3400 per ounce on Monday after briefly touching a two-week low, as safe-haven demand strengthened ahead of high-stakes talks between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, joined by key European leaders. International bullion traded up by $10 at $3392.4, while MCX October futures slipped to ₹99821 per 10 grams, pressured by firmer rupee, which edged up to 87.36 amid gains in domestic equities. With geopolitical risks simmering, investors now shift focus to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell?s speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium and the release of FOMC minutes, both seen as crucial in shaping September?s rate-cut outlook.
