Economic Buzz: Japan retail sales fall 0.2% in May

Retail trade in Japan decreased by 0.2% in May compared to the previous month and landed at ?12.8 trillion (~$88 billion), according to a report released on Friday by the country's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

On an annual basis, the sales value went up by 2.2%, as the total value of commercial sales reached ?50.0 trillion, with 0.2% fewer goods sold compared to May 2024.

Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted value of sales in the wholesale industry reached ?37.3 trillion, marking a year-on-year increase of 0.8%.
