Economic Buzz: UK industrial production down 0.6% in April

12-Jun-2025 | 12:28
UK's monthly production output was estimated to have decreased 0.6% in April 2025, according to the Office for National Statistics. This follows a fall in March 2025 (down 0.7%) and a rise in February 2025 (up 1.7%).

The fall in monthly output in April 2025 resulted from decreases in manufacturing which was down 0.9% and electricity and gas was down 4.3%; these were partially offset by an increase in mining and quarrying (up 3.6%) and water supply and sewerage (up 0.7%).

Production output for the three months to April 2025 was estimated to have increased 1.1%, compared with the three months to January 2025.

Manufacturing was up 1.2% which was the main contributor to the three-monthly rise in April 2025, supported by smaller positive contributions from water supply and sewerage (up 3.7%) and electricity and gas (up 1.0%); this was partially offset by a decrease in mining and quarrying (down 1.3%).
