Commodities Buzz: US Crude oil imports crash around 12% on year in last four weeks says EIA

The Energy Information Administration or EIA has stated in a latest weekly update that US crude oil refinery inputs averaged 16.0 million barrels per day during the week ending November 7, 2025, which was 717 thousand barrels per day more than the previous week’s average. Refineries operated at 89.4% of their operable capacity last week. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.9 million barrels per day. Distillate fuel production increased by 319 thousand barrels per day last week, averaging 5.0 million barrels per day.

US crude oil imports averaged 5.2 million barrels per day last week, decreasing by 703 thousand barrels per day from the previous week. Over the past four weeks, crude oil imports averaged about 5.5 million barrels per day, 12.1% less than the same four-week period last year. Total motor gasoline imports (including both finished gasoline and gasoline blending components) last week averaged 548 thousand barrels per day, and distillate fuel imports averaged 167 thousand barrels per day.

EIA noted that the US commercial crude oil inventories (excluding those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve) increased by 6.4 million barrels from the previous week. At 427.6 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 4% below the five-year average for this time of year. Total motor gasoline inventories decreased by 0.9 million barrels from last week and are about 4% below the five-year average for this time of year. Finished gasoline inventories increased, while blending components inventories decreased last week.
